FASCISM DENOUNCED

U.S.A. MINISTER'S SPEECH. •

[by CABLE —PRESS ASSN. —COPYRIGHT.]

NEW YORK, December 9.

Mr. Harold L. Ickes, Secretary for the Interior, speaking at a dinner here, made one of the most outspoken denunciations of the dangers of Fascism so far voiced by any Government leader. He said: “The moronic exhibitionism of the Ku Klux Klan has died down in the United States,’ but a similar nightshirt lunacy has engulfed whole nations abroad. Men seeking to undermine democratic institutions in the United States employ the hollow excuse that they are stamping put Communism. it does not require much intelligence to . see that such anti-Communism may become the wooden horse within which ruthless Fascism- may enter our gates. “Fascists who are pretending to save the country from Communism would superimpose an equally dreadful Fascism. ’They are the real enemies of America.”
