A London cablegram reported the death of Thomas McKie, a forme-t Commander of the- Salvation Army in Australia.

The death occurred at. Kokiri, this morning, suddenly, of John James Hogan, single, aged (51 years, and a native of ?.laori Gully. Deceased is survived by two sisters. Miss Mary Hogan, who resided with her brother, and Mrs Cunningham of Humphries. The funeral will take place on Sunday.
The death has occurred of Mr. W. Roberts, who from 1889 to 1903 made 47 appearances for Wellington as a Rugby’ back, playing in every’ position. He represented New Zealand against Queensland in 189C>, and the following year was called to Australia, when Dunean was injured. For many’ years he was in the employ of the Wellington Harbour Board. —Press Assn.
Prior to their departure from Greymouth. yesterday, presentations of greenstone tikis were made by’ the President of the West Coast Rugby Union (Mr. A. A. Adams) to the following members of the Springbok party: Messrs De Villiers (actingmanager), Nel (captain), and Craven (vice-captain). A similar souvenir was also forwarded to Mr. P. Day (manager).
Prior Io his departure for Malaya, yesterday, Mr. Gordon Jupp, who has been senior supervisor in charge of gold-prospecting work in the Grey and Westland mining districts, for the past IS months, was farewelled by the staff of the Employment Division of the Labour Department, and was presented with a fountain-pen and pencil. The presentation was made by Mr. J. Davison, Acting-District Employment Officer.
The death occurred at Greymouth, early this morning, of Mr. William August, a native of Nelson, aged 54 years. Deceased, who was a member of the Waterside Workers’ Union, had resided in Greymouth for a lengthy period. He saw three years’ service in the Great War. He is survived by his wife, three daughters, Mrs. A. Robertson (Ross) and Misses Alma and Mary August (Greymouth), two sons, George and William (Reefton); also a brother. George (Wellington). The funeral will take place to-morrow, leaving deceased’s residence, Chapel Street, at 2 p.m., for the Karoro Cemetery.
A cablegram from Southampton reported the death of Mr. Andrew Mellon, who was born al Pittsburgh in 1555. Ho was married in 1900, and there wore two children. Mr. Mellon resigned as President of the Mellon National Bank to become Secretary of the United States Treasury, a position he held from 1921 to 1932. He was American Ambassador at the Court of St. James, from February 1932, to March 1933. Ho was also the founder of the Mellon Institute of Industrial Research; trustee. Carnegie Institute, Pittsburgh; trustee, Carnegie Institution of Washington; trustee, University of Pittsburgh; and a member of the Council of the National Industrial Conference Board. The late Mr. Mellon was regarded as one of the richest men in the world.
