£91,768 SPENT IN WAGERS. LONDON. June 29. The British people, who are universally recognised as the world's greatest dog lovers, are rapidly becoming known as the world's greatest dograce lovers. The extent of their passion may be gauged from the fact that
the world’s largest dog-race totalisator is now operating at the White City—the hounds’ Ascot. During the four hours and a-half of racing on Saturday night, when the Greyhound Derby was run. £91,768 passed through the 631 ticket-issuing machines of the new totalisator. The tdtalisator. which worked for the first lime on Saturday is capable of handling £BOOO of punters’ money a minute. Although Sii.ooo people watched the Derby the normal attendance is 25,000. The average expenditure was 3/6 a head.
