NEARING THE END

RUGBY, June 10.

The principal delegates at the Imperial Conference paid a tribute to the life and work of the late Sir Robert Borden, and passed a vote of appreciation of his services, to be sent from the Conference. Sir T. Inskip submitted the report of the committee on munitions and food supply. This was approved. It has been arranged that the final plenarv session of the Conference will take place at St. James’s Palace on Tuesday morning. At this meeting, approval will be given tc the reports of the various committees, and the closing speeches will be made. CAMBRIDGE HONOURS.

Cambridge conferred honorary Doctorates of Law on Mr Lyons, and Mr Nash. Mr Lyons, in replying to the toast of the guests, al the subsequent luncheon, said the degree, even if onlv honorary, placed him among some of the greatest British intellects. He accepted it less as an honour to himself than to the Australian people, whom ho represented. He emphasised that the Australian Universities were in debt to British traditions ot scholarship and ‘professors, and pointed out the Australian development of vocational training, the possession of a. degree admitting to many professions. Ho recalled his own efforts in the cause of education, including the establishment, of State High Schools in Tasmania.
