UNIVERSITY HOCKEY [per press association.] AUCKLAND, May 28. The final of the men’s section of the New Zealand University hotkey tournament was played to-day in fine weather. Auckland A beat Otago 6 —o, and thus became holders of the Seddon stick. i The women's section was won by Otago, with five points, by one point, from Auckland. GOLF. LONDON, May 28. The’ last eight in the amateur golf championship include the English champion, Pennink who defeated Levinson, a most dangerous American, and Jamieson, once a victor over Bobby Jones. Nevertheless, the Americans, Wehrle and Chapman survive, also Sweeney and Stowe, the artisan golfer. Among those defeated- are Bourn and dander, the South African. LATER. Tn the quarter finals, Sweeny defeated Wehrle 3/2. Munn defeated Pennink two up. In the semi-finals, Sweeny defeated Stowe 6/5. Munn defeated Count Bendern 4/3.
RIFLE SHOOTING The first combined ladies’ and men’s team competition was held on Thursday. The following are the teams and scores (best six shots to count): — Tainui: Mrs. O’Neil 64, K. Toheroa: Mrs. Mossop G 7, D. Williams G2, T. Bannister 61, H. Mossop 59, W. Williamson SG. W. Glynn 53; total 358.
Taipo: Mrs. Pattinson 61, G. Hildebrand 57, Mrs. Bannister 58, W. Timlin 60, J. Smith 52, H. Tallent ire 51; total 339. Tainni four points, Arawa three points, Toheroa two points, Taipo one point. The shoot-off for the Hotty Button was won by Mrs. Mossop.
