A message from Chapel Hill, North Carolina, states that the American chemical society announced the discovery of selenium oxychloride, a straw-coloured liquid, capable of dissolving almost every substance in the world. Exceptions are glass, platinum and. tungsten. It has a high freezing point of 65 deg. Fahrenheit. A bottle of it frozen in the laboratory, broke the glass, then warming, dripped on the wooden floor, and dissolved almost everything with which it came in contact. It is believed that the discovery will open new industrial possibilities.
