Miss Peggy Nankivell, of Melbourne, with" 79, won the founder’s trophy at the inaugural meeting of the Vestal Golfing Society, formed to provide facilities for women golfers from the Empire. Miss Mabel Stringer, founder of the girls’ championship presented the trophy, which was a replica of the vestal lamp. It will be competed for annually. Miss Nankivell’s score was far ahead' of other competitors, including Miss E. Kemp (N.Z.) 104. The contest was held at Ranelagh.

A prominent Arab police officer Halim Basta, long regarded as an enemy by the Haifa terrorists, was shot dead in a street, at Basta. He lecifily returned to duly, after being seriously wounded last year.

Russia’s decision to build battleships is published in London, accomI anied by a report that, she will match Japan, capital ship for capital ship. Official quarters inform ihe Australian Associated Press that the latter suggestion is ridiculous. Actually Russia has provisionally agreed to subscribe to the London 1936 Treaty. Conversations are now proceeding with Germany regarding German and Russian ratios. Russia possesses neither shipyards nor the technical skill to enable her approaching Japan's navy.
BAGHDAD, April 15
Princess Rajiha, sister of King Ghazi, is affianced to Flight Lieutenant Abdul Jabdar Mahmoud, an officer of the Royal Iraq Air Force. The Princess is aged 29, and speaks Arabic, Turkish and English fluently. It is recalled that Ghazi’s other sister, Princess Azzah, married an Italian hotel porter, renouncing the Moslem faith for Christianity.
