Five Englishwomen missionaries in Higashikozu, a village near Osaka, who were sheltering two girls who had escaped from a disorderly house, were attacked by the proprietor of the house and thyee other men, armed with sticks, attempting to recapture the girls. They beat two of the missionaries unconscious.
