PRIME MINISTER’S REMINDER. [BY CABLE —PBESB ASSN. —COPYRIGHT.] OTTAWA, February 20. The Defence Bill, providing, for the< expenditure of 53,000,000 dollars, was approved by 191 votes to 17. All the Conservatives voted with the Government. The Prime Minister (Mr W. L. Mackenzie King) said: —“To rely on the Monroe Doctrine or Britain would be simply sponging. Even in. the life of this Parliament, Spain may become the cause of an international conflict. Answering the Opposition charge that the 53,000,000 dollars defence vote was unwarranted until social services grants were larger, the Prime Minister declared that in the case of an invasion there would be no social services whatever. He annoulnced that the whole defence administration would be placed under a commission of three.
