[PKB PBISB ASSOCIATION.] FOUND HANGED. WHANGAREI, February 18. Stanley Frederick Cleal, about 31, farm hand, was found dead this morning, suspended from the rafter of a garage at the rear of a private hotel. He had used a length of electric lighting flex as. a cord. MOTORIST INJURED WHAKATANE, February 18. While travelling on the road between Waihau Bay and Cape Runaway, last evening, a car driven by J. W. Neilson, left the road and turned over several times, and landed on the beach 40 feet below. . Neilson received chest injuries. He was attended by Doctor Budd, but the injuries were’ so serious, he could not be removed to Opotiki Hospital. FARMER FOUND HANGED. CHRISTCHURCH, February 18. Phillip Grimshaw Hamilton, dairy farmer, aged 62, did not appear when his name was called in the Magistrate s Court, this morning. He was dead ’“I ask that the case be struck out,”' said the police prosecutor, Sergeant K. Henry. A nod from the Magistrate, Mr. Levvey, indicated that the application was granted. Behind these terse proceedings lay a tragedy. Hamilton had been found hanging from a rafter at his home in Waimairie Road. A constable was called to the house, at nine o’clock this morning, and reproved the body.

MASTERTON SHOW AWARDS. MASTERTON, February 17. People’s Day at the Masterton Agricultural and Pastoral Association’s Golden Jubilee Show attracted a record crowd in fine weather. Among the many events was a procession of decorated vehicles and displays from the town to the show grounds. Additional championship awards were: Draughts—Stallion and reserve, Donald McKenzie (Masterton); mare and reserve, Donald McKenzie; gelding, Donald McKenzie. Champion Pony Jump—Miss Elaine Groves’s (Masterton) Micky. Champion Jump—L. T. Mansell’s (Te Horo) Glendowie. ARCHITECTS’ - COUNCIL CHRISTCHURCH, February 17. Membership of the New Zealand Institute of Architects was shown to stand at 282, an increase of 14 for the year, by the report presented at the annual meeting, held in the Provincial Council Chambers last evening. The financial statements showed an axcess of income over expenditure for the year of £lO3 7/4, compared with £217 17/2 for the previous year. The accumulated fund stood at £1296 3/3. The following members of the council werp elected unopposed: South Auckland, Mr. H. L. White; Hawke’s Bay-Gisborne, Messrs H. E. Phillips and F. H. Forge; Taranaki-Wanganui, Messrs T. H. Bates and R. G. Tjallboys; Wellington, Messrs E. H. de J. Clere, J. M. Dawson, and H. C. Morton; Canterbury, Messrs B. J. Ager, W. H. Trengfove, and G. D. Griffiths; Otago, Messrs E. S. C. Miller and A. L. Salmond; Southland, Mr. A- C. Ford. In the election for council members for the Auckland district, the elected candidates were Messrs S. S. Alleman, J. Park, and L. S. Piper. This morning members heard a paper on testing materials by Professor S. Steele, of Canterbury University College. The paper was read by Professor P. H. Powell, who gave an address on lightning conductors and arranged a visit to the school of engineering at the college.
