TASMANIAN ELECTIONS

CLOSE CONTEST PREDICTED. ! (BY CABLE—PRESS ASSN.—COPYRIGHT.] (Recd. February 18, 1 p.m.) HOBART, February 18. An extremely close contest is expected in the Tasmanian general election, on Saturday. The Labour Government in the last seven and a-half years has depended on the vote of a Douglas Credit member Mr. Carruthers, for its majority. It is considered unlikely that Mr. Carruthers will be returned, and if the Nationalists win his seat, and the other seats remain unchanged, both parties would be represented by 15 members, in a House of 30 members.
