1 TRANS-PACIFIC SERVICE [PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.] NAPIER, February 18. The continued delay in the negotiations regarding the trans-Pacific service, proposed by the Pan-American Airways, has prompted Mr. M. G. S. McCanl, of Wellington, president of the associated chambers, who is visiting Napier, to issue a statement on the subject. “The suggestion that there has occurred a serious hitch in the negotiations between New Zealand Government and the Pan-American Airways for the establishment of an air service will be viewed with alarm by all commercial men, who have given any thought to the very real advantages that will accrue to New Zealand from the establishment of such service. We do not yet know whether the proposed trans-Tasman service will eventuate, even if New Zealand contributed a heavy subsidy. The trans-Pacific service is within our grasp. No subsidy is asked. Surely it seems wise to stop haggling and close the deal while we may. We should not allow this opportunity to pass unless there are grave objections that have not so far been disclosed.” LINDBERGHS’ TOUR. CAIRO, February 17. Colonel and Mrs Lindbergh left Cairo this morning, but have not yet arrived at Baghdad. A violent sandstorm is raging in the desert. The Colonel was warned before the start.
