February 15. “South Africa, by purchasing British goods valued at. £37,5 0 0 4 0 0 0 last, year, is now Britain’s best customer. displacing India (£34,133.000) and Australia (£32,271.000) for the corresponding period, states “The Times” in a leading article. "The Times” adds: “Exports to South Africa compare with £ 14.000,000 in 1932, when the Union was clinging to the gold standard. The improvement is partially due to the Ottawa agreement, but chiefly to prosperity following the rise in the price of gold.”
