TESTING OF CARS.
[to the editor.] Sir— In the “Star” of February 15 I noticed a protest from the Christchurch garages who are not members of the Garage Proprietors’ Association, against their being debarred from participation in the scheme of examination of cars for warrants of fitness. I hasten to assure the local garages in the Westland district that every reputable garage here will have an equal chance of participating. The precaution taken by the Government to assure that every car examined' shall have the necessary qualified examination has made it necessary to appoint in the first instance those garages which have been inspected by a board of examiners. The expenses of these examiners have been borne up to the present by the Motor Proprietors’ Association: and it. is only because this body has in its service efficient examiners for the purpose that the examination of garages has been left in its hands. Any garage can obtain an “A” Grade certificate if it comes up to the same standard of those garages who have already secured one. The necessary procedure is to apply to the Motor Garage Proprietors’ Association, Box 64, Wellington, to become a member of the Association; at the same time applying to have your garage examined by the Association’s examiner. The necessary application for approval of garage by 1 Hie Commissioner of Transport should he filled in at Hie same time. A limited number of copies of these forms can he obtained from the local secretary of the New Zealand Garage Proprietors’ Association. —Yours, etc. 11. McG GASMAN, Secretary Westland Branch N.Z. Garage Proprietors’ Assn.
