REEFTON, February 15.

Mr and Mrs H. Spargo were welcomed at a social evening held in their honour by the congregation of Wesley Methodist Church on Friday night. Mr A. Bolitho expressed the hope that the work which Mr Spargo had carried ou,t as an office-bearer and local preacher would be continued. Mrs Waddell, on behalf of the ladies of the congregation, welcomed Mrs Spargo and trusted that as Mrs Spargo had been actively connected with a church at Maori Hill that the association would continue. Rev. Mr Dickens, in handing Mr and Mrs Spargo a basketwork easy chair, voiced the wishes of all members for the future happiness of their guests. • Mr Dickens, also presented Miss Evelyn Thompson with a handbag from the young people of the Sunday School and the Church. Miss Thompson has been a Sunday School teacher and a church member since her childhood, and is removing to Christchurch to enter the Teachers’ Training College. A musical piogramme was provided, and numbers were given by Misses Potter, Read, Honey (2), Mesdames Read and Kearns, and Mr S. Robinson. Michael Turner, employed by the Public Works Department, on the road deviation at the Saddle, was caught by a dray while at work to day and suffered a crushed foot, when a wheel passed over it. Mr. and Mrs. C. Mori of Wellington are spending a holiday in Reefton. Mrs. Payne of Greyinouth, who has been visiting Reefton. has returned home.

Rev. C. Dicken of Wesley Methodist Church left Reefton this morning for Auckland where he attends the Methodist Conference. Miserably wintry conditions prevailed at Reefton for the week-end and people were glad of the comfort of a fire on Sunday. Although Mondaybroke fine, there was a keen wind and at eventide, rain again threatened.
