JOURNALIST’S TRAVELS
NOW HATES HUMAN RACE Webb ‘ Miller, famous American newspaper man, has travelled the world over for the past 20 years in search of peace, and found none anywhere, states the “News Chronicle.” He has just returned from Spain, where he saw things that have made him decide to give up hope of ever finding it. Now, for his forthcoming book. “1 Found no Peace,” he is writing a final chapter on Spain, which he is calling “I Hate the Human Race.” Since the “civilised” Great War he has watched the steady development of terror as a weapon for military and political purposes: in Russia under Lenin, Italy under Mussolini, Ireland under the Black and Tans, and Germany under Hitler. “But the climax of the use of terror I found 'in Spain,” he said. "Now we know what we’re going to get in the next great war. There won’t be a single non-combatant, from the new-born baby to the centenarian. “I saw ordinary streets which were not military objectives raked with machine-gun fire. Not many were killed, but all were terrorised out of their lives. | “In Oviedo, a town of about 70,000, I saw war-wounded children playing ' in the streets.”
