AUSTRALIAN CRUISERS

WELCOMED AT SYDNEY. [by CABLE —PRESS ASSN. —COPYRIGHT.] SYDNEY, August 11. Scenes reminiscent of the return of infantry units from the Great War were seen, to-day when the Australian cruisers Australia and Sydney returned after extended service in the Mediterranean. The cruiser Sydney is new to Australians and quite unlike other Australian cruisers. She is much longer in the water and has two squat, widely separated streamlined funnels to reduce air resistance. She is heavily armed and armoured, and is capable of developing a speed of 321 knots. She is regarded as the smartest and most businesslike of her type seen in Australian waters.
