POLICE ASSOCIATION
GOVT. RECOGNITION
[PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.]
WELLINGTON, August 11
The Government has granted official recognition to the Police Association and takes an entirely favourable view of its formation. This was indicated in the House of Representatives today by the Minister in charge of the Police Department, Hon. P. Fraser, when replying to a question asked by Mr A. Campbell (Govt., Chalmers), some time ago. Mr Campbell asked the Minister whether the Government was prepared to consider favourably the formation of an association to enable members of the police force to cooperate with the Government and the department in promoting discipline, and general efficiency of the force, the well being and comfort individually and collectively of members of the force in the matter of hours of duty, remuneration and conditions of employment, and the better and systematic adjustment of grievances which may arise from time to time. In asking the question he was associated with several other members. Mr Fraser replied that the answer was in the affirmative. A deputation thoroughly representative of the police force of the Dominion waited upon him on August 8 with an application for recognition by the Government of the Police Association. The request was granted, the delegates being informed that the Government welcomed the efforts on the part of the men to form an association, and would do everything possible to facilitate members of the police force joining it.
