CRUELTY TO THRUSH
BIRD FIXED IN VICE
LONDON, June 24.
Two boys, aged 11, were prosecuted by the R.S.P.C.A. at Alton (Hants) yesterday for cruelty to a thrush.
A farm labourer said that he found the bird fixed by the legs in a vice in a shed. The boys were pelting it with stories. To save it from further agony he killed the bird. The father of one of the boys stated that he had thrashed him, and as a further punishment had put him to bed on leaving school every day for a week. This boy was discharged. The other boy was fined 2/6, and his’ mother, who has eight children ranging in age from 3 to 14, was allowed a fortnight in which to pay the fine.
