ENGLAND’S CRICKET TEAM

ALL BUT COMPLETED VOCE IN—-GIMBLETT OUT (BX CABLE—BBJCSB ABfIJS.—CQPXBIGHT.I (Recd. August 10, 11.30 a.m.) LONDON, August 9.

Marylebone announces the following additional invitations for the Australian tour:—

Holmes (Surrey), Fames (Essex), Barnett (Gloucester), Sims (Middlesex), and Voce (Notts.). The additional wicket-keeper will be announced later.

“The Times’s” cricketing correspondent, commenting on the Marylebone players for Australia, says: Generally speaking, it is surprising what a good side has been evolved, from what seemed precious poor material earlier in the season. They should certainly do well. Faroes and Voce are most welcomb choices. They are men to stand up to hard work. It is splendid to see Voce again in the English team, and; feel that much of the unpleasant nonsense stirred up two years ago has been cleared up and forgotten. It is all the greater pity that his comrade iii many great bowling perf&rhifiricek is not’included. T. Moult, in the “Telegraph,” says that Larwood was not included in the team for Australia, owing to foot trouble.

Those previously chosen were:— G. O. Allen (Middlesex), captain; L. B. Fishlock (Surrey), W. R. Hammond (Gloucestershire), J. Hardstaff (Nottinghamshire), M. Leyland (Yorkshire,) R. W. V. Robins (Middlesex), H. Verity (Yorkshire), G. Duckworth (Lancashire), T. S. Worthington Derbyshire), W. Copson (Derbyshire), A. Fagg (Kent). MARYLEBONE STATEMENT. (Received August 10, 1.30 p.m.) LONDON, August 9. Marylebone has issued the following statement regarding Larwood and Voce: —

“In the summer of 1935, Larwood, Voce and Duckworth were approached by responsible officials regarding their attitude towards participating in representative cricket. Each stated that he did not desire to play firstclass cricket, except for his county.

“The Board of Control and the Selection Committee have treated this decision confidentially, hoping Voce and Larwood might alter their attitude. In the meantime neither Marylebone noi - the selectors have been able to consider either player available for representative cricket. Marylebone has now received an entirely satisfactory statement from Voce, who placed himself unreservedly at the disposal of the Board and the selection committees, whenever his services were required, therefore there is no objection to Voce being considered on his merits for any representative team.” ENGLAND V. INDIA. (Recd. August 10, 11 a.m.) LONDON, August 9.
