SHOPKEEPER’S EXCUSE.

ADELAIDE, July 30.

Huge Oswald Kuhlmann, gardener, of Frogmore-road, Lockleys, was charged before Dlr Clarke, S.M., in the Adelaide Police Court with having unlawfully obtained 1/3 from Aithur Reynolds by falsely pretending that a certain yellow-coloured vegetable—a trombone—was a ' fresh and natural green-coloured trombone. Kuhlmann, who pleaded guilty, -was fined £l2, with 15/- costs, in default 21 days’ imprisonment. He was given 14 days to nay. Evidence was given by Detective Harris that a complaint had been made by Reynolds that he had bought for 1/3 a trombone which was represented to befresh. He found that it had been painted green. Detective Harris added that he interviewed Kuhlmann, who admitted that he h ad sprayed a number of trombones with green paint to freshen them up. Kuhlmann, according to Detective Harris, said: “The women paint their faces to make them more attractive, saveloys are painted to make them look brighter. I did not think I was doing any harm to freshen up the trombones to make them brighter.”
