A FREE HOSPITAL

HEALTH BY INJECTIONS EAST MALLING (Kent), June 19. An illustration of the way tree doctors on the 160-acre Research Station here treat sick trees was given yesterday. Apple trees which have fallen ill, pear trees which cannot assimilate a normal diet, and plum trees decrepit with old age are given suitable injections, and health and vigour are restored. In a few weeks results are achieved which hitherto have been accomplished only by two or three years’ patient nursing, feeding, pruning. The station is supported by the Kent County Council and a Government £rant.

Mr. W. A.- Roach, who has been working on the subject for five years, demonstrated hia methods to scores of fruit growers and scientists. He held out hopes that suitable in-

i jeeltons may be made available which i, will solve an old problem of fruit i growing--thc fact that trees rtfuse to produce heavy, crops for two years in succession.
