The Dardanelles Straits Convention was signed here to-day. The convention was signed with gold fountain pens, which the Turkish Government presented to the delegates. The president, Mr S. M. Bruce, in closing the proceedings, testified to the delegations' understanding and goodwill. They had established a new era in international relations in settling disputes by common understanding. The ceremony was broadcast throughout Turkey.
TURKISH DELIGHT
ISTANBUL. July 21
Fifty thousand troops at midnight began the reoccupation of the demilitarised zones of the Dardanelles, amid the cheers of the crowds. Buildwere illuminated and beflagged, and there were rejoicings in the public squares, where couples were dancing.
Mothers and orphans of Turkish soldiers killed on Gallipoli, carrying flowers, accompanied former soldiers who placed wreaths on the graves of the Allied and Turkish dead.

The battle-cruiser Vavuz. formerly the famous German Gqeben, steamed out of the Dardanelles at dawn, at the head of a flotilla, to reoccupy the Islands of fmbros and Tenedos. Modern artillery has been mounted in the Straits at the old fortifications, pending the construction of new fortifications.
