A scheme for the modernisation of the London street fire alarm system will come before the London County Council next week on the recommendation of its fire brigade committee. The proposals, suggest the introduction of a closed circuit system, largely automatic in action.
JAPANESE SAMPAN.
SUVA, July 20.
A Japanese sampan, believed to be trochus fishing, was sighted by the Government yacht Pioneer in the northern Fijls. No action was taken, as the sampan was outside the threemile limit.
COMMONS’ BUSINESS
RUGBY, July IS.
The House of Commons is faced with a heavy week's business. On Monday a debate will take place on the Government’s defence 'programme. The first, speaker will be Sir Thomas Inskip, Minister for the Co-ordination of Defence. On Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday a motion to approve new craft unemployment assistance regulations, in substitution for those withdrawn under the “standstill act,” will be considered.
OVERSEAS DAIRY PRODUCE
LONDON, July 20
In the House of Commons, Mr, Elliott informed Mr. Dorman Smith, that no decision had been taken whether or not Britain will tax dairy products from the Dominions, nor was there any understanding concerning the matter.

BRAMPTON (Ontario), July 20.
A Jersey cow, Brampton Basilua. owned by B. If. Bull, has established a new world’s record for the production of butterfat in three consecutive years, with a total of 22,364 quarts of milk for 3So2lbs butterfat.
