WELLINGTON WEATHER

WATERFRONT DAMAGE

[PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.]

WELLINGTON, July 21

Heavy rain, driven bitingly before a strong southerly wind, continues. The waters of Wellington Harbour are grey and yeasty. High water last evening was at 5.35, and as the tide rose, Day’s Bay road embankment, from Howard Point onward, received another of the unmerciful poundings it has had this winter.

At tho top of the high tide, sea water swept the road, carrying shingle and sea wrack on to the bitumen. One motorist had his engine put out of commission by a wave-top that caught the front, of his car. He was towed to safety.
