THE POPE’S ILLNESS

ALARMINC REPORT.

[by CABLE—PRESS ASSN, —COPYRIGHT.]

(Received July 2, 10.30 a.m.) LONDON, July 1.

The “News-Chronicle’s” Rome correspondent writes: The Pope is reported to have told visiting prelates: “I feel death is approaching. I will die at my beloved Castelgandolfo.” His Holiness arrived at the Papal villa, Castelgandolfo, last night. Audiences have been cut down to a minimum. He will take a complete rest, as his asthma is most troublesome. He is also suffering from arteriosclerosis, and has to be carried in a chair from room to room. The doctors state that his heart is good.
