Although he has said nothing publicly, he bitterly resents the recent speeches of Mr. Chamberlain, Mr. Duff-Cooper and Lord Londonderry, these undermining his prestige. He has felt most keenly the attacks on Mr. A. Eden, and he threatened his resignation if Mr. Eden resigned. Unless the Conservatives restore his authority, Mr. Baldwin may retire from politics, and may leave events to take their own course, this involving the Cabinet breaking up.
