The woman occupant of a residential flat in Clarence Street, close to the Sydney Harbour Bridge, made a grim discovery this afternoon. When she called a locksmith to open a wardrobe in the upstairs of the flat, rhe was confronted with the body of a woman who, apparently, had been strangled a week ago. Detectives were quickly on the ft cm-, but they did not touch the body, which was in a crouching position on the knees. They waited until a close examination had been made by the Government Pathologist. Doctor Sheldon. The doctor discovered that there was a strong cord strained tightly round the dead woman's throat, n being sutficient in itself to cause death. Dr. Sheldon also 'noticed that there were injuries to tire head, from which it would appear that, the victim had first been rendered insensible with a heavy instrument, and I hen strangled. The victim was about 35 years of age. The residential keeper told the police that a man had occupied the flat until about a week ago. when he disappeared, taking with him the keys, including one for the wardrobe. The dead woman was a stranger to the other occupants of the residential flats. The police tire making every effort to locate the man. LATER. The woman was fully dressed, and in a huddled position on her back, not crouching on her knees. There was a severe wound in the forehead. So far she has not been identified. The man is also unknown, but a description of the pair is being circulated to all police.
