REFS. AND PASSES. NEW PLYMOUTH. June 17. Resenting the action of the Taranaki Rugby Union, in deciding that no complimentary tickets would be issued for representative matches, the members of the North Taranaki Rugby Referees’ Association to-night decided that their services would not be available for any further matches until the privilege is restored. A circular conveying the Rugby Union’s decision was received to-day, and the meeting of referees was summoned immediately. The cancellation of complimentary tickets included even the members of the Management Committee, and was made with a view to strengthening the Union’s funds. Tho referees stated that the Union was depriving them of their only privilege, despite their gratuitous service through the season. The South Taranaki Referees’ Association also considered the matter to-night, and decided that it would disband if the Union did not reconsider its decision. The President of the Union, Hon. James McLeod, said to-night that games would undoubtedly be played in spite of the referees’ decision. The Union or the clubs themselves would arrange for referees. After hearing the deputation the union discussed the question, and a resolution was passed assuring the association that it had the full support of the union at all times.
