[BY CABLE —PBESS ASSN. —COPS BIGHT.] DEATH SENTENCE? SYDNEY, June 17. At the Criminal Court to-day, Henry Joseph Maudlin, aged 27, was found guilty of the murder of Charles Dawson, on’May 5. Maudlin was sentenced to death. His chief defence was that he was mentally unstable, owing to a serious
car accident in 1925, when his skull was fractured. ! LOAN FAILURE. CANBERRA, .lune 17. The Commonwealth internal loan of nine million closed £1,800,000 short, the amount subscribed being £7,200,000. Underwriters will make good the shortage. The Treasurer, Mr Casey, stated that the subscribers numbered 7650. He added the failure' to obtain the full amount was attributed to the improvement in business conditions, more outside avenues being now available for investment of capital, than during the depression.
