ASCOT WEEK
KING INSPECTS COURSE. [BRITISH OFFICIAL WIRELESS.] RUGBY, June 16. Owing to Court mourning, the King and other members of the Royal Family will not attend the Royal Ascot race meeting, which opened in fine weather to-day. Tho King’s interest in the meeting, however, was displayed last night, when His Majesty drove to the race course and inspected the arrangements at the Royal box, which was bedecked with flowers. The Royal enclosure was visited. The King then went to the Royal stables, where the horses owned by him and Lord Derby, which are running this week, are kept. Main interest centres in the race for the Gold Cup on Thursday. ASCOT STAKES. (Recd. June 17, 10 a.m.) LONDON, June 16. The Ascot Stakes resulted: Bouldnor 1; Coup de Roi 2; Blue Girl 3. Thirtyfour started, won by two lengths, a short head between second and third.
