MR. McTAGGART’S STATEMENT
With reference to an allegation in a letter signed by “Justice,” published in yesterday’s ‘‘Star,” to the effect that nothing is being done to provide single men at Runanga with relief work, the Mayor of Runanga (Mr R. McTaggart) stated to-day that the allegation was contrary to fact. As a result of his visit to Wellington, Mr McTaggart has received Ministerial authority to employ all eligible men in Runanga, whether married or single,' and irrespective of age. it was not! correct, said Mr McTaggart, that the) work available was being restricted to unemployed youths under 20 years of age. Ten men were started yesterday on the work of widening the road at the 17-Mile Bluff, and the remainder of the eligible men will be put on at the beginning of next week, comprising a further ten or twelve.
