£20000 BAIL BUT RE-ARRESTED
U.S. GANGSTER’S DISMAY. NEW YORK, April 29. A grey-haired, quietly-dressed woman this afternoon, walked into the New York Federal Court, took £20,000 in bank notes fro mher hand-bag and said, “That’s my husband’s bail.” She was the wife of Johnny Torrio, the notorious gangster who was arrested a few days ago on the eve of his departure for Europe. His period of liberty was short, however, for detectives were waiting outside the courtroom to re-arrest him on another charge. Looking extremely crestfallen he was compelled to say good-bye to his wife and go once more to police headquarters. From there he was taken back to prison.
