KUMARA NOTES

[OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.]

At a meeting of the Kumara branch of the R.S.A., Mr R. 'Little presided, and the following members were present:—Messrs W. Lawrence, H. George, M. Mitchell, P. Fox, F. Baretta, J. Reedy, A. Langham, S. Harris, A. McNabb, and L. Dewe (secretary).

The secretary reported that the committee appointed to meet the Memorial Hall Committee had been well received by that body, and as a result of the meeting a letter was received from the Hall Committee, stating that they were pleased to make a substantial donation towards the cost of building a room for this branch. The secretary was instructed to thank the Hall Committee for their generous donation. A letter received from a member was fully discussed and commented on unfavourably. The member is to be written to, explaining the full position. The secretary reported that a different system of granting assistance had been started in Hokitika, and full details would be received later. One member was given assistance by a grant of stores. The offer of assistance from the wife of a. member towards the building fund was received with thanks.

It was resolved that the secretary write to the Minister of Internal Affairs for assistance from an art union.
