LEWES BY-ELECTION.

RUGBY, June 15.
Polling takes place next Thursday in tho by-election in the Lewes Division of Sussex, and the Prime Minister addressed a letter to the Conservative candidate, stating: “You can point to the great progress made in the development of our social services under the National Government. You can instance the enormous improvement in trade and industrial conditions reflected in the fact that during the first quarter of this year the industrial production, as well as employment, beat all previous records. The very fact you stand for national security as a means of promotion of peace is itself sufficient reason why the electors should rally to you.’’ The Opposition candidate received a letter from Mr Attlee, who declares: The main issue of the day is poverty in the midst of plenty, and that the policy of the National Government is one of restriction and waste. HAY FEVER REMEDY. The treatment for hay fever, which has been given a trial over a period 1 of five years at St. George’s Hospital, London, proved successful in 99 per cent, of the cases. The treatment involves the application by electricity cf a coating of ionised zinc to the inside of the nostrils. Three or four applications are given, after which the majority of patients are free from attacks of ordinary hay fever for a year. Precautionary applications are given at the end of twelve months, and again a year later, and after that there is usually no recurrence /if the trouble.
NEW AIRPORT. The Mayors of Brighton. Hove, and Worthing are attending the opening, to-day, near Shoreham, of the new airport, which is the joint enterprise of the three municipalities. It is so situated as to serve equally well each of these- important resorts. Air connections -to the Isle of Wight, the west of England, and ' the Midlands will be available.
