HOKITIKA NOTES
[OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] HOKITIKA, June 13. Mr R. J. Pedder, of Weld Street, lost a horse last night, through its into a ditch. The animal had been paddocked, but had got out. It had been purchased only a fortnight previous. This is the second horse Mr Pedder has lost in a similar manner in recent years. It is reported that several men are likely to be discharged' from the Humphrey Gully race works shortly. Mrs Eva Burger was admitted to the Westland Hospital yesterday. Mrs R. Straight (formerly of Kumara) is very ill in Christchurch. Two of her daughters (Mrs Everleigh, of Queensland, and Price, of New
South Wales) are on a visit to sec their mother. The installation of Lodge Westland took place in the lodge room, Hokitika. There was a large attendance of members and visitors. The District President (Bro. J. B. Isherwood) installed the following officers, assisted by Bro. J. T. L. McPhee, P.D.P.; J. P.A., Bro. Conning; A.D., Sister Tinetti; V.A., Bro. Pierson; Secretary, Bro. Fox; Treasurer, Bro. Ballinger; I. Bro. Lock; 0.G., Bro. Stickle; A.D.8., Bro. Oates and Innes V.A.8., Bro. Roberts and Dwan; minute secretary, Bro.._ King; pianist, Bro. Lindsay. After the ceremony the District President presented Bro. Stickles with his collar and diploma. The visitors were from Seddon, Millerton and Royal Oak (Otago). After the meeting, the members and visitors adjourned to the festive board. The Rhythm Orchestra supplied th© music for the social evening. Toasts, “King and the Order,’’ A.D. Sister Tinetti; overtures by orchestra; toast, “Grand. Lodge,” Bro. F. Ballinger, responded to by D.P. Bro. J. B. Isherwood; song, Bro. Schroder, “Coming On, Again”; toast, “The Visitors,” Bro. J. Fox, P.D.P., responded to by Bros. McPhee (Seddon), Duffield (Millerton), Routledge (Royal Oak, Otago) ; story, Bro. Conning, “Fifty Years Ago”; toast, “Newlyinstalled Officers,” Bro. J. T. L. McPhee, responded to by all the officers; toast, “Orchestra,” Bro. Lindsay; accordion solo, Bro. J. Schroder. The Orchestra played a medley, “Over the Waves,” “Annie Laurie,” “Smile the While.” A short story, “Maori at the Dentist.” Accordian solo, “It Ain’t Gonna Rain No Mo”; toast, “The Secretary, Bro. Fox,” Bro. Lindsay, responded to by Bro. Fox.
