NOT POLITICAL
CONNAUGHT RANGERS MUTINY.
LONDON, May 2.
The mutineers of the ls< Bn. Connaught Rangers at Jullunder, in India, in 1920, pensions for whom the Dail has been discussing, have had political martyrdom thrust upon them. The actual cause of the mutiny was discontent caused by irergular pay, not being allowed to play cricket or football, and drink due to boredom. Some of the ringleaders* were Englishmen ■whose knowledge of Ireland was of the slenderest. The Ist Battalion had not seen service at the Dardanelles. There the sth Battalion distinguisehd itself. It was composed of a mixture of Ranger reservists and Doncaster miners, the latter, curiously enough, acquiring brogues after a short period of service.
The only manifestation of political feeling was the mysterious appearance of a green flag during a charge. One of the most gallant attacks if the war, the charge on the Kabbak Kuyu wells, was made under it.
