RUBBISH DUMP

[TO THE EDITOR.] Sir, —In my opinion, the purpose of a rubbish dump includes the staying put of rubbish, after it is dumped. If that interpretation is correct, then the dump at the rear of Victoria Park near Preston Road, is not worthy of the name. The present conditions would I feel sure, not be tolerated in anv other town of New Zealand, and they are a disgrace to the Greymouth authorities. Surely they are able properl v to control the dumping of rubbish, and to see that unsuitable rubbish is not dumped. For instance, the surrounding locality is at present littered with quantities of loose paper, which is blown in all directions by the wind. Such untidy conditions constitute a nuisance, "and immediate steps should be taken to ensure a cessation of the dumping of paper at Victoria Park.—l am, etc.,
