WRESTLING
MEHRINGER V. ZAHARIAS. [per press association.] NELSON, June 12. Pete Mehringer defeated Chris. Zaharins. on points, after a fair bout, which went the full distance. Each scored a fall, the former in the third round, with a flying tackle and dump, and Zaharias in the sixth with back slams. TO-MORROW’S CONTEST Greymouth’s first wrestling contest of the season will take place in the Town Hgll to-morrow night, when KingElliott (N.Z.) and Joe Woods (U.S.A.) will meet in a professional., bout over eight ten-minute rounds. Woods has an excellent record, and on almost all occasions this season has turned on something spectacular. Less than 16 stone in weight, he is wonderfully strong and a clever matman, whose lack of poundage is more than compensated by his speed and aggressiveness. Elliott has won fame for his hard, clean wrestling, and he can always be depended to give spectators their full share of straight wrestling without the frills and showmanship. An expert in the use of the flying tackle. Elliott is an improved grappler this season, with the advantage of an extra stone in weight and a hard campaign, recently completed, in the States. These two look like providing a splendid contest, and theie should be few vacant seats. Amateur bouts will procede the professional C Amateur preliminaries have been arranged ns tollow:-R. Featherston V R. Smith; J. Blanchfield v. J. Ed wards; P. Peters v. C. McLean.
