PLUNKET SOCIETY

RUNANGA BRANCH MEETING. The annual meeting of the Runanga Sub-Branch of the Plunket Society was held in the Plunket Rooms last evening, Mr H. Duggan, DeputyMayor, presiding. The election of officers resulted:— President, Mrs Timlin; vice-presi-dents, Mesdames Armstrong and Rae; secretary, Mrs H. Dale; treasurer, Mrs Farquhar; hon. auditor, Miss Richmond; committee: Mesdames Griffiths, Oakley," Cooper. Caldwell, Dickel, Wilkes, find Flood. The annual report for the year ending March 31, as follows, was read and adopted.

This year two appeals were made to the public, both of which met with good support. The first of these was a house-to-house collection, which we intend to be an annual affair. The second was the Baby Photographic Competition. This proved a huge success, and we take this opportunity of thanking all those who, on the various committees, worked so hard in this Haring the year, we were sorry to lose the services of Nurse Rawlings, and we trust that she is fully restored' to health. We extend a hearty welcome to Nurse Turner, whose valued assistance whilst amongst us, was greatly appreciated. We also heartily welcome Nurse Robinson, who is now serving our district, and our thanks are due to her for her efficient help. As is shown by the nurse’s report, the rooms are as popular as ever. We again desire, however, to appeal to all mothers to help us by becoming members, or by giving a small donation. It is with sincere regret that, owing to continued ill-health, our President finds it necessary to tender her resignation. Her sympathy, however, is with the Society, for which she wishes every success in the future. Our thanks are due to our most loyal committee, to our auditdr, Miss Richmond, to the Picture Committee, to all our members, and to all those • who have always so willingly helped us.

Nurse Robinson reported as follows:—Number of visits to sub-branch 49, number of babies under supervision 32, number of older children 19, number of new cases 21, visits to homes —new 32, old 251, total 283; visits paid to rooms—adults 512, babes 450, older children 114. The general health of the babes has been good, and all are thriving well. I would like to thank members of the committee for the many little kindnesses extended to me on my weekly visits. The balance-sheet as follows was received as satisfactory:—Receipts: Cash in hand 1/5/35 £l/6/8; cash in bank 1/5/35’ £lO/1/-; P. 0.5.8. interest 31/3/35 19/5; annual subscriptions £6; donations (2) £l/1/-; house-to-house collection £l3/14/-; Baby Photo Competiion £56/8/2; P. 0.5.8. interest 31/3/36 16/10; total £9O/7/1.
