WALKING ARM IN ARM
MAGISTRATE SEES NO HARM SYDNEY. April 25. . A man who assaulted his wife’s friend because he saw them walking arm-in-arm was sentenced to imprisonment for a month. Mr. Sheridan, S.M.. said he saw no harm in such behaviour. John Albert Little, 33, labourer, at the Kogarah Police Court yesterday, was sentenced to a month’s imprisonment for assualting Alfred James Bowry, at Kogarah, on April 13. Little said he saw his wife walking arm-in-arm with Bowry coming home from a dance hall. He sprang from behind them and struck Bowry.
Mr. Sheridan, S.M., said he could not see any harm in a lady walking arm-in-arm with another man, especially as Bowry was an elderly man of nearly 60 years. He had often assisted ladies himself by allowing them to hold his arm. He recommended Little to medical observation, and also that the sentence be served on a prison farm. Little was also sentenced to 14 days’ imprisonment, concurrent, for breaking an existing bond of good behaviour.
