RUNANGA NOTES

[our own correspondent.] A meeting of interested parents and pupils was held in the Runanga School last evening, with a view to forming a committee to further the candidature of Miss Joyce Bansgrove in the Queen Carnival being run in connection with the Technical Assembly Hall funds. Mr R. Armstrong presided at the meeting, which was addressed by Mi' Holmes and Mr Kania, who spoke of the necessity for the asembly hall. After some discussion, a committee was formed, Mr J. Mann being appointed chairman and Misses E. and I. Malpass secretary and assistant secretary respectively. Mesdames F. Bansgrove, J. Isherwood, Chamley, J. Smith, O. Pendlebury, Ferguson, and Miss Mann were appointed to the committee, with power to add to their number. The monthly meeting of the Runanga Women’s Institute was held in the Presbyterian Schoolroom yesterday, Mrs Swan presiding. It was decided that the Institute be represented by Mrs J. Braithwaite at the Dunedin conference. Competition results were:—Stencilling, Mrs W. Duggan 1, Mrs McLeod 2, Mrs K. Griffiths 3. Scones: Mrs McEwen 1, Mrs Sweeney 2, Mrs W. Duggan 3. The roll-call, the uses of a lemon, brought forward some useful hints. Hostesses for the month were Mesdames Houghton, Howard, Baty. Mrs Black was accorded a vote of thanks for demonstrating wadded quilts. The competition next month is to be something new from something old, and puff pastry.
