The supporting programme includes a Laurel and Hardy comedy, coloured cartoon and a Hal Roach musical. "1935 GOLD DIGGERS.” “Gold Diggers of 1935” which took two years in the making, is coming to the Opera House on Monday, and ?s well worth waiting for. A funny, clever story with a host of film favourites that includes ten outstanding stars, and, with the assistance of more than 300 of the prettiest dancing girls in Hollywood, assembled into a tuneful comedy in which talent for spectacular screen innovations has been given full sway. Three dance specialities include a number in which 90 snow white grand pianos cavort on the stage. The dance team of Ramon and Rosita is featured. In the cast are Dick Powell, Adolphe Menjou, Gloria Stuart, Alice Brady, Glenda Farrell, Frank McHugh', Hugh Herbert, Joseph Cawthorn, Grant Mitcljell, Dorothy Dare and Winifred Shaw. It is a catchy romance at a fashionable summer hotel. A wealthy widow, who is penurious, is the target of the gold digging propensities of a trio of schemers enacted by Menjou, Cawthorn and Mitchell. REGENT THEATRE.

One of the most delightful and naturally amusing comedies that has ever come to the screen is “Things Are Looking Up” most of it supplied by the star Cicely Courtneidge, with the abundant support of Max Miller and William Gargan. The amusing story is amazing in its many complications, which will be understood when it is realised that a circus rider, particularly capable in the sawdust ring takes school duty for her runaway sister, Without knowing anything of the school curriculum. The music master, another “deceiver,” comes to her rescue, and between them things go merrily along. Cicely wins a tennis championship, and then to save her circus has to return to the ring and deputise for a lot of absentee artists. She succeeds in “scrambling” through that ordeal under the eyes of whole school who attend the circus to celebrate the tennis victory. Then comes the moment when Cicely is selected, in mistake for her sister, for the vacant post of headmistress of the school. SEE OUR COAST ALL BLACKS. “Mike” Gilbert and Ronnie King, the West Coasters, show them how in the first match of the AH Black tour in England, and it is brought to the screen in support of this evening’s programme at the Regent. All West Coast football fans cannot fail to see their “townies” in action. It is well worth it to see the effort of Gilbert and King alone. At the Civic Theatre in Auckland, where this clearly pictured film was released, the West Coast full-back received a great ovation from the audience on his wonderful achievements.
