[OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] HOKITIKA, November 9. The Hokitika Musical Society concluded its season last night at All Saints’ Hall, with the presentation o£ the concert version of “Maritana,” Mr J. L. Menzies being hon. conductor and Miss M. Giese hon. pianiste. The large audience showed their appreciation. The principals were Miss A. P. Duff (Maritana), Miss E. Dale (Lazarillo), Airs A. E. Perry (Maritana), Messrs A. E. Perry (Don Caesar), C. J. Wright (Don Jose) and T. Stopforth (Captain). There was a chorus of 35 voices. The Hokitika Borough Council met last evening. Present: Messrs G. A. Perry (Mayor), A. R. Elcock, E. Teichelmann, T. W. Duff, E. Park, H. L. Michel, H. T. Parry, G. Heinz, J. King. An apology from Cr. Thompson was received. The Royal Humane Society, Christchurch, wrote for a grant in aid of funds. —Granted. The Hokitika Lawn Tennis Club applied for domestic water supply and' also intimating that .spouting of club’s pavilion will overhang the footpath for about a foot, and asking whether council Will object.—Approved. Gordon Bryant applied for domestic water service connection to section 157, Revell Street. —Approved. Applications for septic tanks from Devaney’s Hotel, Dunedin Hotel, and Southland Hotel were granted. Harold Lawn applied for septic tank to section 1296, Brittan Street, to be flushed' by rain water tank.— Granted. R. Eastgate applied for direct domestic water service to shop and dwelling, part section 25G, Weld Street. —Approved. J. H. Wilson wrote, stating that in regard to reducing the height of his fence at the corner of right-of-way in Beach Street, that the fence had been in existence for nearly 50 years and the question of its obstructing the visibility for moor traffic had not been mentioned before, and, further, that the right-of-way, which was always known as the Empire right-of-way, should not be available for footway traffic, as it is not a street. Mr Wilson suggests that a 3£t. footpath be formed along the south side of the right-of-way for pedestrians. The Methodist Church Committee applied for water supply.—Held in abeyance. F. Oliver, Park Street, applied for water supply, also street crossing.— Granted. Repairs to Library amounting to £l9 were approved. The foreman’s report was approved'. Leases were approved to A. S. Craig and G. and D. Davidson, Ltd. It was decided to observe Armistice Day as usual on Monday. U was decided to pipe the drain in front, of the Central Dairy Company's premises, the company offering to curb the distances at their own expense.

Mr Campbell, the engineer, was in attendance, and' the particulars of the proposed new water supply and reticulation were discussed in committee. On resuming, Mr Campbell was instructed to draw up plans and specifications and estimates.
