S. AFRICAN REPUBLIC
SECRET SOCIETY’S AIM. [by CABLE —PBESS ASSN. —COPYBIGHT.] LONDON, November 7. “The Times’s” Bloemfontein correspondent- says:—General Hertzog, speaking in his constituency, denounced the Afrikander Broederbond (League of Brothers). Of this League Dr. Malan and his lieutenant are members. General Hertzog declared it was a secret society aiming at an independent republic of South Africa, and at the severing of all of South Africa’s' constitutional ties. The Prime Minister declared that the Broederbond gravely menaced peace, also purity of public life and administration. Moreover, he said, the Bond’s machinations had affected the life of tile community as it was connected with other secret institutions which were exploiting political and racial aims. General Hertzog disclosed that the Brcedrbond has organised local divisions, which, he saifl, closely examined all applications for membership. There was the danger that those in the civil 'service who were not members of the Broederbond would be victims of intrigue, while the teachers who were members of the League were endangering the interests of children.
