WESTLAND TROTTING CLUB
ANNUAL MEETING. At the annual meeting of the Westland Trotting Club, Mr. F. McGregor presided. In his annual report, the president explained that the bad weather h&(l been responsible for a loss of £2OO on the meeting. This had seriously affected the financial position, as there were no funds prior to the meeting.
Government taxes . amounted to £245/13/9, but from this amount the club received £5B/9/10 as a rebate of 2i per cent, of the totalisator tax, the net amount paid by the club in taxation being £lB7/3/11; of this amount £lO2/4/- represents dividend tax deducted from investors, and £27/15/stakes tax, recovered from winning owners.
Appreciation of the services of Mrs. Fowler, and other women supporters, and of Mr. Evans, in representing the club at the Trotting Conference, was expressed, to the Westland Licensed Victuallers’ Association for the giving of a silver cup for presentatiaon at the next meeting, and to the Hokitika Municipal Band. .The balance-sheet showed receipts at £BO5/4/1 and expenditure £823 18/-, the d'ebit £Bl9/12/5, an increase of £l7/13/11 for the year.
The report and balance-sheet were adopted.
The following committee was elected:—Messrs. F. McGregor, J. J. Breeze, J. J. Mclntosh, M. H. Houston, IV. E. Richards, R. Pedder, A. W. Yarrall, E. W. Heenan, R. Whiley, J. Stafford, D. R. Dowell, J. J. Mclntosh jnr., H. Newman and H. Wells.
When the committee met, the election of officers resulted as follows: — President: Mr. F. McGregor; Vicepresidents: Messrs. R. Whiley, A. W. Yarrall, J. J. Mclntosh and H. T Parry; Secretary: Mr. M. H. Houston; Judge: Mr. R. Whiley; Deputy‘Judge: Mr. H. T. Parry. The other officials were re-elected, with the exception of the starter, Mr. E. W. Heenan being appointed. Mr. R. Peddei’ was appointed birdcage steward. Messrs. G. Walton and J. R. Taylor were elected members. »
Mr. Mclntosh urged that a special effort be made to secure more members. It was resolved to make a general effort as suggested. Consideration was given as to the date of the annual race meeting, and it was resolved to defer consideration until Thursday night. ■ „
