August 10.—Kanna, s.s.. 1049 tons (Gardner), 5.50 p.m., for Wellington. IN PORT. Karepo, Kartigi, James Cook, Kaitoa, Totara, Abel Tasman. EXPECTED ARRIVALS. Kiwitea, Gisborne, Wednesday. SHIPPING NOTES. Kartigi’s departure has been fixed for this evening, and Karepo’s for tomorrow morning. Since Saturday the high-water depth of water has increased from 17ft. lOins. to 18ft. 4ins„ and this rate ©f improvement will have to be maintained to enable the free transit of the two vessels named, and of the James Cook and Abel Tasman. The spring tides reach their peak on Friday. Kartigi sails at 8 p.m. to-day for Miramar, Wellington, Auckland' and Portland, if the bar permits. Karepo sails at 9 o’clock to-morrow morning for Melbourne and Adelaide, if the bar permits. Kanna sailed on Saturday evening fox- Wellington and Napier. Totara arrived from Port Chalmers on Sunday morning, and she sails tonight for New Plymouth. Kiwitea leaves Gisborne this afternoon for Greymouth to load for Auckland and Portland. >. Kaimai is due on Friday from Gisborne to load for Wellington and Miramar. ’ Port Waikato is due on August 23 to lift a full cargo of timber for Sydney and Newcastle. A U.S.S. Co. steamer arrives about August 19 to load for Melbourne and Adelaide. Kaitoa sails to-night for Petone, and returns from Wellington to load timber for Petone again.
Titoki leaves Wellington on Wednesday for Westport and Greymouth to load for Nelson and Tarakohe. Abel Tasman arrived this morning from Port Chalmers and Melbourne. She is to sail on Friday. James Cook sails on Wednesday morning for Brisbane direct.
