TROOPS AND HITLER

CONDITIONAL SUPPORT

MOTHER-IN-LAW ANALOGY

(BY CABLE —PBESS ASSN.—COPYBIGHT.]

LONDON, August 9.

The Vienna correspondent of “The Times” says: “The official newspaper of Dr. Kurt Schuschnigg’s Roman Catholic Storm Troops publishes authoritative disclosures of the atttiude of the Reichwehr towards Hitlerism, written by Captain Karl Felsen. a member of the German General Staff, who was obliged recently to leave Germany for political reasons. “Captain Felsen declares that the price of the greatest national revival in history was Herr Hitler, General von Blomberg and a fantastic regime which senior officers of the Reichswehr felt one day would stink in the nostrils of Europe. However, the Reichswehr was supporting them conditionally, as a man puts up with his mother-in-law for the sake of his wife, saying ‘She won’t live long.’ Cynicism and biting ironyaieign in Reichswehr circles, who tolerate General von Blomberg but are unswervingly loyal to General Fritsch. The Commander-in-Chief of the; Army never formed an alliance with Herr Hitler, whom he considers only as a means to an end and whom he regards with reserve and distaste. The only reason the Reichswehr does not remove this regime of blood and tears is that the High Command has its own military plans, to which all are subordinated. Everything at present is unconditionally pressed into the military liberation of the Fatherland — policy, finance, commerce, science, sport, women’s organisation, the family and the little village fire brigades. However, the suppressed bitterness and contempt of the Reichswehr will destroy Hitlerism when it hinders German interests, which, for some reason or other, have to follow a path over bayonets. This moment may not wait foi* the outbreak nf war."

ANTI-JEWISH POLICY.

LONDON, Aligns t 10.

The “Daily Telegraph’s” Berlin correspondent says: Herr Hitler rejected the Finance Minister, Doctor Schacht’s appeal to put a brake on the anti-Semi-tism in Germany. Dr. Schacht explained that he feared there would be an extension of the American boycott. He also emphasised that the Reichswehr were behind him. Herr Hitler replied that Streicher’s views were his.
