While the operation was proceeding, she sang scales, so that it could permit of a study as to how the operation might affect her voice. The goitre had pushed her windpipe an inch and three-quarters to the left. The surgeons believe that the operation will increase her tone volume con siderably. OVERSEAS POPULATION LONDON, August 9.
