THEATRE LOSSES [per press association.] WELLINGTON, August 10. Taking the risk of being detected from the street by a policeman, or passers-by, thieves carried out a daring burglary at the Plaza Theatre, Manners Street, on Thursday night. Climbing to the top of the sweet counter in the foyer, they forced up the steel grill, and made away with £B/12/3 in cash, and a quantity ol chocolates and cigarettes. No attempt was made to break into the Manager’s office. A large show case which was directly in line with glass doors leading to the street, was forced open, and a large quantity of lingerie taken.. COUNCIL SAFE ROBBED. WELLINGTON, August fl. Thieves broke into the offices of the Upper Hutt Borough Council during last night, and with the use of gelignite, broke open the strongroom, taking £37 in money. A nearby resident believed she heard an explosion about 12.30. Entry was made by forcing a rear window. The money was to have been used for the payment of relief workers.
